Vintage original 11 x 14 in. "country of origin" Mexican lobby card from the 1940s drama,
LA MALQUERIDA
(THE UNLOVED), released in 1949 by Azteca Films, Inc. and
directed by Emilio Fernandez
. In the ranch of El Soto lives Raymunda (Dolores del Río) and her daughter, Acacia (Columba Domínguez). After she is widowed, Raymunda marries Esteban (Pedro Armendáriz). What Raymunda does not suspect is that a deep passion has arisen between Acacia and Esteban. The misfortune is that the men who approach Acacia have a tragic end, and because of this, they begin to call her "La Malquerida" ("The Unloved").
The design features a color-tinted photographic image of Del Rio and Armendariz in a tender moment that is contrasted with another scene of Del Rio on her knees in front of another woman. Affixed in the left half is an original black-and-white photograph depicting Del Rio as the same woman is now at her feet. It is unrestored in good- condition only with stains from water damage on the front and back and a yellowed piece of Scotch tape on the bottom left corner of the pasted-on photograph.
