    onstantine I (The Great) and his sons Constantine II, Constans I, and Constantius II comprised the Constantine Dynasty, and were the first Roman Emperors to embrace Christianity. Romans for centuries persecuted and murdered the Christians; in their years of power Constantine and his sons brought this to an end. In 312 AD Constantine, a powerful general at the time, claimed to have seen a vision of a flaming cross in the sky at noon. He considered it Divine instruction to take control of the Roman empire and proclaim Christianity as the true religion.
